TV Shows: 2 Broke Girls, Glee, New Girl, Project Runway

If I am not cramming mountains of movies into my brain unnecessarily I'm keeping up to date with all the coolest of television shows.

Project Runway: All Stars

Having an 'All Stars' series seems to be all the rage these days (and yes, maybe I am basing this solely on Tyra and her Top Model franchise, but hey, that's all that exists in my world).
Honestly, I would have preferred a completely new season with all new contestant because this feels like it's trying too hard/is stale. I could be disenchanted because they have refurb'd and they've got all new judges and mentor. Even though it took me a while to come around to her, the show is NOTHING without Heidi Klum and her cray cray "you are oot!". Also, Project Runway without Tim Gunn is like drinking a milkshake with water instead of milk. It surely 'makes me want to weep' as the grand gay would say!

Two episodes have passed and I believe the next episode features Miss Piggy which is another telling sign of its inevitable death. There are only two things that I must note of the episodes so far; Austin Scarlett is back with a god awful hideous moustache. His looks are always so interesting but there is something irksome about them at the same time. Atm, I believe he is going for a 70s gay man look?
They also brought back Elisa Jimenez, the hippy one that does the ceremonious saliva markings. I felt it fairly obvious they bought her back for the lolz. She created this which I found sort of interesting but, given the calibre of the other designers, I knew it wasn't going to cut it and she was swiftly "ooted".

I'm about to watch this next episode entitled 'Patterning for Piggy'. We'll see how that goes.

2 Broke Girls

I think this is some sort of guilty pleasure for me. I know a lot of people I have shown this to have thought it was complete shit. Point is, I can't stop thinking Kat Dennings is the world's biggest babe and basically anything with her in it is worth watching.

It's hard to ignore, though, sometimes there are the terrible, racist jokes and various other tacky and overrated boring haterisms BUT you gotta give and take and I'll certainly take the fact that Kat Dennings is so effed up babin!

For those unaware/interested. The premise is Max and Caroline become unsuspecting friends both working in the same downtown New York diner. Caroline is an ex-heiress type (her dad gets busted for some sort of extortion or something she is left to her own devices) and Max is a street savvy hater/babe. Caroline has the business smarts and encourages Max to get on board to start a lucrative cupcake business.

When I heard the most recent episode was entitled "And the Upstairs Neighbour" I was busting to watch because perhaps I could relate because my upstairs neighbours are the cause of 5% of my life's demise. I was very wrong. This episode had all the tired, whorephobic, stereotypical jokes you could ever think of. Now, I'm not saying the rest of the show is very original in its jokes department but I think there are certain jokes you don't make because
1. they're cheap and re re re re recycled.
2. they're offensive and unthought out, and
3. they do nothing but buy into what people already (incorrectly) think about a certain group of people.
The upstairs neighbour IS played by Jennifer Coolidge BUT she plays this polish prostitute and not only are they making the jokes about prostitutes (they all have some form os STI etc) but they're also perpetuating that Eastern European women go to America to be/as prostitutes.
I was sorely, sorely disappointed by this episode. I suppose this is the flaw in the plan; after fourteen funny, mildly offensive episodes they're going to start to deliver the truly atrocious. Maybe I should lighten up? OR (how about this?) OR How about just admit you're being horribly inappropriate and not try and wrap everything up in this neat little fluffy package of friendship and goodwill!

Glee

If you wanna start talking about inappropriateness on a show that attempts to appear as though it's all for inclusivity of all the minorities, you can look no further than Glee! Ha! (but, i'll spare my splitting head at the moment).

This episode concerns Becky (the Downs Sundrome cheerio/Sue's wingwoman) & Arty, Emma & Mr Schu, Rachel & Finn and Mercedes & Sam. There's a great musical number where Emma sings the My Girl/Laura Nyro/5th Dimenson fave 'Wedding Bell Blues' replacing 'Bill' with 'Will' (very clever) and features both Coach Bieste and Sue Sylvester as back up singers. The back up singers were the highlight for me, Fyi.

Becky has this tiny thing for Arty and, well, it doesn't quite work out but it results in the rare and heart melting Sue Sylvester being nice thing. There was a bit of facial wetness following that scene.

The cover of "We Found Love", done with the synchronised swimming, was pretty cute but I pretty much have zero investment in the Will/Emma relationship. If it could not exist, I would certainly allow it.

And then there's a small town cliff hanger which I shall leave unrevealed for anybody yet to see it.

New Girl

There's been heaps of hype building up to the premier on Australian television last night because so many hate her because they can't stand the quirky, dorky, whimsy thing but then for every hater I believe there to be those who love her, probably for the exact same reasons (and maybe also that video she did with Joesph Gordon Levitt). Despite it all, I was smarmy because I had been following the show since it began airing in America thanks to a little friend called The Internet.

I'm not gonna lie, I have always been a little uneasy when it comes to the whole whimsy thing but I'm not one to rule out something entirely because It contains something or someone I hate. Maybe I have a love/hate relationship with the whole movement because I feel some sort of sense of entitlement, which, I know, having a sense of entitlement about something that I obviously didn't create or patent is total bullshit not to mention the only harm it's doing is to myself. Enough!

The show is funny. I think it's very hysterical with the Zooey quips - the singing, the dance moves, the dumb looks, the dorkiness etc etc. but I do think (having rewatched the first episode last night) that it reached a peak and hasn't quite gotten back to its original greatness but since I'm super stubborn and don't really like to abandon ship halfway through the game I'll stick with it until the end!
