Movies: Marathon

So, I went on this tiny hiatus because I was crushed, absolutely crushed that they shut down megaupload. Actually, I lie, I wasn't that crushed it just gives me more incentive to rage against the machine but it just means that all the links that I've shared on here are now rendered obsolete. Sucks, but this shall not pull me down into the depths of despair, no. As soon as I discover another reliable source I shall be bathing you with a golden shower of all things great.

I was formulating a whole post in my head spurred on by SOPA and PIPA but since them jerks have ceased the bill (for now) it seems kind of yesterday's news. Alas, my chance to rant about the idiocy of the whole thing will go unheard (apart from a small rant over coffee with a friend yesterday).

To keep the ball rolling and staying with the theme I will just go through what I've been watching recently movies-wise;

127 Hours (2010)

Cool, let's all make a jibe at me because I like to keep behind the times and watch things almost precisely a year after they come out. Here's the thing, I'm a cultural troll. I has no money, I just feed off the scraps the billy goats drop off the bridge and into my expecting mouth.
No spoilers here for we all know the story. Dude's a daredevil, goes for a little rock climbing/wall scaling/clumsy fall, his hand gets stuck under a rock, can't move for 127 hours (which is around 5 and half days, trust me, I calculated), goes a bit cray cray, cuts off his hand, runs deliriously around desert, drinks galleons of poo water and then montage of his new life! WOOHOOOO
I'm not gonna lie, It was pretty fucking boring. I had to watch it in three half hour blocks. The whole time I was just anticipating the arm cutting scene, which I naturally squirmed through. I didn't care for his stupid hallucinations of some dumb life he was going to have but I suppose without out it he would just be sitting there with the rock on his hand going cray. Basically, pretty pointless movie but James Franco is a babe. Plus!

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1

I watched this not too long after I did the Lana Del Rey post because I was in such a furious rage and forgot how to sleep so I decided "i'll watch some movie that will put me to sleep". Wrong! I was, instead, thrust into a new kind of vengeful, deathly, cursive wrath. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those haters that exist purely because they need to validate that they dislike Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner every minute of the day. I don't even think they're bad actors - there's only so much character development you can do with a character that's so god awfully undeveloped.
I simply cannot handle the fact that it sells so much and makes such an impression on young people who will now be searching for their Edward Cullen. By all means, have standards but don't go hoping you'll find this ideal man. Also, don't view finding a man as the ultimate in life. And seriously, don't be an irrational teen who acts like a martyr 90% of your life.
The fury within was only soothed by the fact that the version I was watching was this terrible cinema filmed version. It was the worst! Dark scenes were almost unseeable, the person filming was 24/7 munching on snacks, the audience laughed at all the terrible jokes, sex scenes and when Bella suggests the ridiculous name for their soon to be born baby (Renesme, like, are you 4 years old?). The best thing, and my favourite thing about CamRips, is when someone gets up in the cinema which is why, when it happened I hastily took a screenshot which you can see above and no matter when it is, it's always inappropriate.
Bottom line, don't watch this movie if you are sensitive to poorly constructed plots, embryonic characters who fall inlove with one another and get married and have stupidly named, mutant babies.

Paprika (2006)

Sometimes I do stray from the hollywood blockbusters and watch films that will give me cred with my alternative/indie/nerd peeps. imdb defines the the plot as such:
When a machine that allows therapists to enter their patient's dreams is stolen, all hell breaks loose. Only a young female therapist can stop it: Paprika.
I did really enjoy this but I am at one of my unfamed loss of words. It was super enjoyable and imagery-wise really good. I think a lot of times with animes something gets lost in translation and the plots and concepts are not as discernible as your everyday laymen hollywood film. Also, dreams are a tricky thing. There's no real dogma to them. Anyhow, when I get a reliable upload source I'll put this up on here because it's worth the watch.

 Sabrina (1954)

Have been in denial of my love for Audrey for many, many years. I figured I was team Elizabeth Taylor my whole life and thought nothing of the refined, elegance of Audrey or the sultry, bimbo of Marilyn but I'm coming around, slowly. Sabrina was no 'Breakfast At Tiffanys' or 'How To Steal A Million' (which, in my opinion, can not be beat) but it was certainly entertaining and informative. I learnt, for instance, that Audrey has very large boats for feet or, at least, that is what her barefooted scalliwag suggests.

The Preacher's Wife (1996)

Let's be honest, I would never in my life have actively watched this movie if it didn't have Whitney in it. She does a lot of singing in it, which is a plus. Oh Lordy, her voice used to be so seamless. I know, all I can do is laugh now but it's just so tragically bad

The Craft (1996)

Sixteen years this film was made and I don't think there is a teen movie that has surpassed this one in the way of excellence. Flawless, just flawless. (p.s. this is not the first time I've watched this, Obviously!)

Womb (2010)

There's no denying, everyone surely loves a bit of sick content. Womb is some really bizarre, slightly dystopic incest film. Eva Green (of The Dreamers fame - more incest) falls in love with Matt Smith (my celebrity doppleganger) who dies a tragic death. There's this whole cloning thing happening so Eva, in her distraught stupor, clones and gives birth to her dead lover. It was a good movie. I will probably try and share this one too! (Oh and p.s. It features cameos by Natalia Tena aka Nymphadora Tonks and Hannah Murray aka Cassie from Skins)
